We would like to thank everyone who donated and supported us on our mission to help this little girl, Pabitra to live a NORMAL life.
Pabitra was born with a rare congenital anomaly bladder exstrophy, meaning her urinary bladder was exposed outside of the body. Moreover, the pelvic bones are widely separated which affected the way she walked. This could only be treated with surgery, but due to the poor financial condition, her single mom could not afford to take her to the hospital.
As a medical volunteer I was introduced to her in Jitpur in 2012. Together with another volunteer (Nicole Schouwenaar) I decided to help her. With the aid of Dr Laxmi Ghimire from VIN I was able to find specialized surgeons who were willing to treat Pabitra for free, but money was still needed for the pre and post-operative care. Therefore, I decided to ran a half marathon of Leiden in 2013, the Netherlands and managed to raise enough money to cover the costs. The money was transferred to VIN and they arranged all necessary steps for the surgery which took place in July 2013.
We would like you to know that the surgery was conducted successfully and recovered quickly. Here is Pabitra’s happy face picture after the surgery. AGAIN, THANK YOU ALL for your support!
Pabitra’s mom after the succesful surgery of her daughter:
“I am very much happy to see my child in this condition. I never think that it could be corrected. I was always worried about her. She was leaking urine all the time. I had to wash bed sheet and her dress every day. It was bad odor in room and seems unhygienic. She couldn’t go to school and play with friends. Now it is different. It is new life for her and us. I hope she will go to school and play with friends. I have no words to say even thanks to people who have supported this poor child. God bless them.”
In January 2015 dr. Laxmi Ghimire visited the Netherlands and showed me a recent photo of Pabitra. He told me that not only her life, but also that of her family changed after the surgery. Pabitra herself is catching up quickly in school and her teachers are very fond of her. She has a lot of friends now and seems very happy. Her mom also benefited, as Pabitra needed less care after she recovered from surgery, and she had more time to find a better job in the agriculture where she earns more money for the family! This is amazing news and this is why we do charity! Thank you again!
